NHS Member Selection
Candidates eligible for selection to this chapter must be members of the junior or senior class and have been enrolled for a period equivalent to one semester at Freedom High School.
Candidates eligible for selection to the chapter shall have a minimum unweighted cumulative grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Upon meeting the grade level, enrollment, and GPA standards, candidates shall then be considered based on their service, leadership, and character.
SELECTION OF MEMBERS:
In September, all Junior and Senior students that meet the necessary guidelines are to complete and submit the Student Profile and essay.
Upon submission of the Student Profile, a faculty council will evaluate each candidate based upon the aspects of leadership, service, and character that have documented in the Student Profile and in the required essay section. The Faculty Council is made of five members of the FHS faculty that are appointed by the principal; the chapter adviser shall be the sixth, nonvoting, ex-officio member of the faculty council. All five (5) members of the faculty council will review the candidate portfolio individually, discuss it, and vote on membership. Students are selected for membership with at least 3 ‘yes’ votes.
Candidates become members when inducted at a special ceremony.
