    Mr. Christopher Fairchild is Harmony's current band director, since the 2017-18 school year. He is a graduate of Unity Reed High School in Manassas, Virginia and received his Bachelors of Music Education and Masters of Conducting degrees from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.

    Mr. Paul E. Shoremount, was Harmony Middle Schools first band director, from the fall of 2002, to the summer of 2017.  He is a graduate of South Plainfield High School in New Jersey, received both his Masters of Music Education and Bachelors of Music Education degrees from Shenandoah Conservatory of Music Winchester, Virginia, with additional graduate studies from Combs College of Music, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
     

    Mr. Shoremount taught for 31 years in public schools. Since the school first opened as Harmony Intermediate School in 2002, the band became the single largest student organization, receiving many Superior ratings in both Concert & Jazz Competitions and Music Festivals. In the spring of 2009, the Harmony Band became the first band with its students grade level to achieve a "Superior Rating" in VBODA Grade 5 Music. In 2010, the Harmony Band was awarded the prestigious, "Presidents Award," at the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival's Concert Band Competition. 

     

    Mr. Shoremount was the band director at Robert E. Aylor Middle School, Frederick County, Virginia from 1986-2002. The Aylor Bands under Mr. Shoremount’s direction had the distinction of receiving numerous Superior ratings in Grade IV music at both state band festivals and independent music competitions. The Aylor Jazz Ensemble earned a reputation as a Superior middle school group, receiving numerous Superior ratings and awards at many music festivals. Mr. Shoremount was also on the Jazz Faculty of Performing And Visual Arts Northwest, a regional Governor’s School for fifteen years, teaching Jazz Ensemble, Improvisation, Jazz Combo, and Master Class in Applied Trombone.
     

    Prior to coming to Aylor Middle School, Mr. Shoremount was a member of the Jazz Faculty of Shenandoah Conservatory, as instructor of the Jazz Lab Band, Improvisation, and Applied Jazz Trombone. Mr. Shoremount has been a trombonist with various bands in New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia. He has studies in trombone, brass pedagogy, and jazz studies with Robert Schectman, William Seeman, Dr. Verne Collins, Alan Wright, Fred Marzan, Chris Pedersen, director of the Garden State Symphonic Band, and Dr.Donald S. Reinhardt, designer and author of the "Pivot System." In 1999, Mr. Shoremount was named Aylor Middle School’s Teacher of The Year. Mr Shoremount has directed All-District Bands in Virginia, and is an adjudicator for both Concert and Jazz Festivals. He is listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, 1998, 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008 editions. He was the District Chairman of VBODA District 16, and he is a former Instrumental Representative for VBODA Districts 14 and 16. Mr. Shoremount is a member of Phi Beta Mu Honorary Band Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Virginia Music Educators Association, Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, and the International Jazz Educators Association. At the Virginia Music Educators Associations state conference at the Homestead in November of 2018, Mr. Shoremount was inducted into the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association’s Hall of Fame.  

     

    Currently, he performs regularly with "Jumptown," a rhythm and blues, soul band. The bands web site is www.jumptownband.com   He is also the Conductor of the Clarke County Community Band, and is an adjunct professor of Music Education at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.
