• Governor's School for Visual and Performing Arts - Summer 2020

The Summer Residential Governor's School for Visual and Performing Arts is an intensive summer program for high school students.  The program offers participants the opportunity to live, study and develop bonds with other students with similar interests and abilities from across the commonwealth.  Both co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are designed to encourage students' interests and abilities.

The visual and performing arts programs include:

    • Dance
    • Instrumental Music
    • Visual Art
    • Vocal Music
    • Theater
    1. Interested students should submit an Intent to Audition form to Mrs. Robinson (Career Center Assistant) by October 18, 2019.
    2. You will then be assigned a time for the local LCPS audition on November 4, 2019.
    3. Students who meet the LCPS Audition Requirements will be required to submit an application to Mrs. Robinson by December 4, 2019, and their applications will be sent to the state.

For students invited to advance to the state level, applications must be: completed online, typed, printed, signed by student and parent, and submitted to Mrs. Robinson (in the School Counseling Office) by December 13, 2019. Do not obtain principal signature; that will be done by the counselors. Please do not staple your application (use a paperclip). DO NOT send your application to the VA Department of Education.

For Letters of Recommendation—please ask your recommender well in advance if they could provide you with a positive letter of recommendation for Governor’s School. When they agree to serve as a recommender, please provide them with a Teacher Evaluation Form from your Governor’s School Application. Please ensure your name is typed at the top of the Evaluation Form and provide it to your teachers no later than November 19. Their letters of recommendation are due to Mrs. Robinson by December 13, 2019.

You may ask for a recommendation from a private instructor. They still need to provide the Teacher Evaluation Form and a written evaluation to Mrs. Robinson by December 13, 2019. Please provide them with an addressed and stamped envelope so they can mail in their recommendation on your behalf.
