    Students will be required to provide:

    Classical Guitar (for practice at home)

    One extra set of strings (for your guitar at home)

    Footstool (for practice at home)

    Tuner (optional)

    Picks (thick or heavy preferred)

    One black three-ring binder (very important, must be black)

     

    Course Description:

    This class will cover a variety of styles including classical, flamenco, rock, blues, and jazz. Students will learn to read music and they will learn basic music theory. Good technique (sitting position, hand position) will be taught and used in the performance of all styles of music.

     

    Grading:

    Grading will be based on a rehearsal skills grade which is given each day of class; written tests; performance tests and participation/attendance in performances. Each category counts as one third of the final grade for each quarter.  During the last week of each quarter the student may retake any playing test.  The new grade will replace the original grade if it is higher.

     

    Rehearsal skills grades will be based on behavior/cooperation, bringing class materials (mentioned above), punctuality, attendance, and evidence that one has practiced.

     

    Class Rules:

    Students must display an attitude of respect to the teacher and to fellow students at all times.

    No profanity.

    No gum.

    No food or drink other than bottled water.

    No phones during class time.

    When the teacher is addressing the class there is to be no talking or guitar playing.
