2018-2019 Academic Year
Welcome to 10th grade Honors English.  The curriculum for 10th grade focuses on British authors.  Honors English is a pre-AP class, as such, students will be expected to read and write often for class.   Reading is essential for growth as a student, but more importantly, as a person.  SparkNotes or Shmoop will only get you so far academically, so be prepared to work.  We will read an array of novels, short stories, and poems this year, including, but not limited to, Beowulf, Frankenstein, and Lord of the Flies.  Whenever possible, we will use free versions of our readings, however, students will be asked to purchase some books during the school year.
This year we will be having reading and writing workshops in class.  You will have a final portfolio at the end of the year with your writing.
We will use Google Classroom throughout the school year as our main work platform.  All students are expected to register in Classroom.  You will receive more information on the first day of class.
    Supply list:
    • Binder (1" should be fine) or pocket organizer
    • Highlighters (for close reading)
    • Colored pens or pencils
    • Tissue box
    • Composition notebook **You will need this for the first day of school. Please make every effort to have yours that day.
      • You must have a journal for class, not scraps of paper. Your journals will be an important part of your success in the class.   A composition notebook stores easily in the classroom, which is why I am requesting this type of notebook.
All students are expected to sign up for Remind.  Find your block and send the text message to the number shown below.
