2019-2020 Virginia Reader's Choice

  • The purpose of the Virginia Reader's Choice is to encourage our students to read noteworthy literature that has been sponsored by The Virginia State Reading Association, The Virginia Association of School Librarians, The Virginia Library Association, and The Library of Virginia Youth Services.

In order for a book to become eligible for the Virginia Reader's Choice award, the book must contain the following:

    • Must be noteworthy in children's and young adult literature.

    • Before placing the book on the ballot, it must be published within the last three years.

    • The books must be at the appropriate level for which they are being nominated.

There are a total of 20 books. There are 10 books for the primary level (K-3) and 10 books for the elementary level (4-5). Students in grades Kindergarten through Third will be read aloud the VRC books that are placed on the primary level. All 10 books are picture books. Students in grades Four and Five will sign up to read the 10 books placed in the elementary level. All 10 of these books are chapter books.
