Mrs. Alexis Groah

Mrs. Groah is so excited to be joining Rock Ridge High School. She most recently worked at Frederick County Middle School in Winchester, Virginia, where she was not only a librarian, but was also in charge of the school's Student Government Association. Mrs. Groah graduated from Shenandoah High School during the school's charter year, so she knows what it's like to be part of a new school from the student's perspective. After high school, she attended Shenandoah University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English with a Secondary Education minor. Mrs. Groah later went on to earn a Master's Degree in Library Science from Clarion University in Pennsylvania.

Her passions outside of school include reading, crocheting, and all things soccer. Mrs. Groah's favorite book is Anna Karenina, but this changes regularly. Her favorite Spanish League soccer team is FC Barcelona, and her favorite Premier League team is Arsenal. Her other loves are watching movies, making and editing movies, and watching her favorite soccer teams play on tv. Mrs. Groah hopes to inspire every student to become a lifelong reader, with a passion for pursuing knowledge and education. Please come in and ask for personal book recommendations anytime! Her email address is Alexis.Groah@lcps.org.

Ms. Lisa McGuinness

I am so excited to be a part of the Rock Ridge team. Being at the high school level is a new adventure for me, after spending fourteen wonderful years at the elementary level.
As the Library Media Specialist, I look forward to providing a dynamic learning environment for students and staff to support the school's learning culture.

"School librarians play a critical role in building a school's collective capacity as they partner with other educators to enrich curriculum and design authentic learning experiences to promote creativity, harness curiosity, inspire exploration, and deepen understanding." (AASL, American Association of School Librarians, 2018)

I am currently pursuing an additional degree in Education Leadership & Administration from The George Washington University. I have a master’s degree in Library Science from Catholic University and a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from George Mason University. Reading is where it starts! I intend to share my creative and communicative experiences, from my previous career in advertising, and teach relevant 21st century literacy skills so students may successfully receive, transform and synthesize information, with apt evaluation skills.
