    Internet Safety

An important part of teaching technology integration is educating students on ways to take advantage of the benefits of the internet, while reducing the risks.

Three risk areas that are addressed with the students at Frederick Douglass Elementary School are:

       1.  Inappropriate Contact - Students need to understand how to protect themselves from cyber-bullies, hackers, phishers and
                predators.
       2.  Inappropriate Content - Content that is viewed and content that is uploaded are included.  Students need to know that
anything posted to the internet is forever.
       3.  Inappropriate Conduct - The internet is a public forum.  Even though users may feel anonymous, there really isn't true
                anonymity.

In addition to what is taught at school, Loudoun County Public Schools encourages parents to have conversations with their children regarding appropriate use and behavior on the internet.
