    Hello Mill Run Families,

It’s hard to believe that we are down to the last three weeks of school!  With all of that said, we still have a solid three weeks of learning and fun, also with the final week of SOL’s and Field Day on the horizon!  I wanted to share a quick reminder and request, asking for all who drop-off in the morning and pick-up in the afternoon to please continue to show caution while on Ridgeway and within our campus.  Please also be mindful of the 20 mph flashing lights, especially during the morning arrival.  This consistency will ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families.

If you haven’t already done so, please be sure to send in your Parent Input Forms, which are due on Friday, May 24th.  If you need another copy, we have some in the front office.

SCA Teacher Luncheon:  Eddie Merlot’s has generously offered to sponsor a luncheon for our Mill Run staff on behalf of our Student Council Association (SCA), which will take place on May 29th.  They are providing food; however, please check out the Sign-Up Genius below if you are able to help with any paper products or beverages, on behalf of our SCA.

For rising 6th grade Eagle Ridge students, the school supply kits  (1st Day School supplies) can be ordered online.  Parents need to go to the ERMS website and click on the PTA.  The website link is on the PTA page.  Deadline for ordering is June 30th, 2019.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    Hello Mill Run Families,

We’ve had a wonderful week at Mill Run!  This week, we celebrated our awesome front office team during Secretary Appreciation Week for the incredible work that they do for our school community daily and had an incredible Donuts with Dads where we welcomed in nearly 700 families (big Shout-Out to our PTO and parent volunteers, as well as Blend Coffee Bar, Giant, Harris Teeter, and Wegmans)! In your child’s Thursday folders this week was our May & June At-a-Glance, as well as a flyer to invite you to participate in our food drive in partnership with Ashburn Cares to support families in need over the summer months.  Participation in this food drive is optional.

Next week, we will be leading our annual TV Turn-Off Week, where Mrs. Ulbrich, Ms. Veltri, and myself will be out visiting neighborhoods in our Paw-Patrol and looking for children to be outside playing and/or completing their homework, screen free.  This annual tradition is always a hit, and we can’t wait to see your children having fun outside!

Also, our 3rd graders travel to Mount Vernon on Monday (4/29), our 2nd grade musical will take place on Wednesday (5/1) at  6:30, and our wonderful Art staff lead their annual 5th Grade MRES Art Show at Broadlands Nature Center on Thursday (5/2) at 6:00, and All County Chorus will be out on Friday (5/3), where five of our students will be representing Mill Run.

Next Friday from 10:45 – 1:15, we hold our Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon.  Please join us during your child’s regularly scheduled lunch time to have lunch with your child’s teacher on the Mill Run staff.  We are truly so grateful for the outstanding work that you do to support our staff, and this is one way for us to thank you!  We hope that you’ll be able to join us!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

    Hello Mill Run Families,

We wanted to share a quick reminder that Donuts with Dads (or special person) will be held tomorrow, Friday, April 26 at 7:00 – 7:30 AM.  Because parking will be limited, please consider carpooling and/or walking.  Also, while at Mill Run, we have several clothes and other items that are in our lost and found and we would love for you to stop by to see if any of these clothes may be yours.  Special thanks to our PTO and parent volunteers for making this such a special event!

We hope to see you tomorrow!

    Hello Mill Run Families,

We hope that your families had a wonderful and relaxing spring break!

We have a few updates that we wanted to share, in preparation for this week.  First, if you are a tunnel walker (near the Nature Center) or walk onto our campus, you’ll notice that we now have a paved pathway leading to our school, as well as into the Learning Deck!  This should make for a much more pleasant walk, especially following rainy days.  Also, on Thursday, April 11th, our K-3rd grade students participated in a vote for their favorite playground equipment.  A winning playground design was chosen out of three possible contenders, and we are working hard to have this added to our playground as quickly as possible.  We wanted to share a big shout-out to our PTO for their generosity with this, as well as to a Mill Run parent who also is generously donating in order for us to be able to fund this!

Please see below for the following important announcements:

    • On Monday, April 22nd, there is a menu change to celebrate Earth Day. The following will serve as the menu items:  Turkey & Cheese Sub, Sunbutter & Jelly Sandwich, Yogurt Parfait Lunch, Fresh Celery Sticks, Fresh Baby Carrots, Fresh Orange Wedges, Choice of Milk.

    • Tomorrow, our 4th graders will be participating in an in-house field trip called Camp Flintlock. During Monday’s arrival, all children will be greeted by a fun colonial musical performance by Camp Flintlock.

    • Loudoun Water & Soil will be visiting our 3rd graders on Wednesday (Ms. Bradley, Mrs. Kretzler, Mrs. Jermyn, and Mr. Wojick) and Thursday (Mrs. Boese, Mr. Snow, and Mrs. O’Day / Mrs. Brodie) to lead an Enviroscape Lesson. Be sure to ask your children about this!

    • Thursday, April 25th is Take Your Child/ren to Work Day!

    • This Friday, April 26th, our PTO is leading our Annual Donuts with Dads from 7:00 – 7:30 a.m. This is always a packed-house event, and we hope to see you there.  Because there will be many in attendance, please consider walking or carpooling so that we can maximize our parking lot.

    Have a wonderful evening!

    Hello Mill Run Families,

I wanted to send this message out a day early, as tomorrow will be busy filled with awesome learning and fun during our 2nd annual STEAM Day.  Attached is a more detailed look at each grade level’s design briefs.  We hope that you have a wonderful Spring Break with your children!  A ConnectEd message on Sunday, April 21st will be shared in preparation for that week.

Below is a quick message about Mill Run earning the Energy Star Award, our upcoming Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, and information for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade families regarding the 20/20 Challenge and SOL Schedule.

We are also excited to share that Mill Run is 1 of 70 schools in LCPS that earned the Energy Star Award, making this our 4th consecutive year!

Our Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon is scheduled for Friday, May 3rd during your child’s scheduled lunches (flyer in your child’s Thursday folders).  We welcome all of our volunteers to come and enjoy lunch on the Mill Run staff, as a way for us to share our appreciation for the incredible work that you do to support our staff and students!  We are so blessed!

For 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade families: Last week, we met with your students to discuss our annual 20/20 Challenge that we offer our students to participate – 20 minutes per day for at least 20 total days leading into the SOL assessments.  The challenge is a great opportunity for students to practice previously learned skills in preparation for the upcoming SOL tests in May (please see calendar attached).  As part of the challenge, students have an opportunity to earn a two-hour block with their peers where they will be invited to the gym or library to participate in watching a movie, coding, and / or board games.  When we shared this with our students, they clearly shared their excitement in anticipation of this day!  Though this is only optional to participate, I have talked with many students who are currently participating, and I am requesting your support to have your children join in on the review and learning.  Attached to this email are both the 20/20 Challenge document and the SOL testing dates.  They can also be found on the Mill Run Website > right hand column > titled 20/20 Challenge and SOL Calendar 2019.  Please note that red indicates a 3rd grade SOL, green indicates a 4th grade SOL, and blue indicates a 5th grade SOL.

    Have a wonderful Spring Break!

  • PTO Board Positions - Help Needed!

Posted by JOHN CORNELY on 4/8/2019

    Hello Mill Run Families,

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend!

I am reaching out to you today to request your help.    One of the many things that separates Mill Run from so many others is that we have such a strong PTO and community involvement.   With the leadership of the PTO, we have such amazing, fun family-filled events that are staples of Mill Run (ex: Softball Game, BINGO Night, Movie Night, assemblies, etc.).  These are delivered at a high level of success because of YOU!  Mill Run truly would not be the same without our wonderful PTO.  Looking ahead to next school year, we have several PTO positions that are currently available and I am asking for your consideration to sign-up to volunteer for the PTO.

We are so appreciative of the ongoing volunteerism that you so greatly share with us and your generosity is truly priceless!  As we plan to have new PTO Board Positions available, I would love for you to consider taking on a position or partnering with a friend/neighbor to join.

This is another opportunity to share your voice, bring fresh and new ideas to our school, and most importantly, be a part of team that brings such joy and happiness to our student body!  Because of you, Mill Run is a better place, and WE NEED YOU!  All current PTO Board members would be happy to answer any questions.  Additionally, you may wish to directly contact our PTO President, Amy Fisher, at millrunptopres@gmail.com or me at 571-252-2160.

If you wish to be contacted to learn more about the PTO, please complete this 1 minute Google document here using this link:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSckIQjci-YxCTHKhIwjOOOYOgs2z6mcOHLp1oqknZQyY17s4A/viewform
