    Hello Mill Run families,

     

    We’ve completed our first full week of this school year, and it went beautifully!  Yesterday, we had our Softball Pep Rally and the kids were so excited to cheer on their favorite team.  Don't miss our annual Staff Softball Game tonight, Friday, September 13th. The forecast looks perfect! Come out to root for your favorite teachers on Cornely's Dream Team and Ulbrich's All-Stars.  Gates open at 4:30 p.m., First pitch is at 5:30 p.m.  Raffle tickets will be sold at the game.  You can be the winner of one of these great prizes: Dulles Golf Center Fun Day Pack, gift cards from Rubino's, Famous Toastery and Blend, family games and more!  Don't forget your appetite!  The PTO will be selling hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and more!  You can also purchase Spirit Wear tonight while you're at the game.  Check out our newest designs and take advantage of this rare chance to purchase some of our vintage designs.     MSAAC:  Please mark your calendars for the first Minority Student Achievement Advisory Committee (MSAAC) general body meeting of the 2019-2020 school year taking place on Wednesday, September 18, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the LCPS Administration Building, located at 21000 Education Court, Ashburn, VA 20148. Please see the attached MSAAC General Membership Meeting and Welcome Informational Letter.

     

    4th Grade Musical - 4th Grade Families:  Please mark your calendars for the 4th Grade music program coming in November.  You will not want to miss this presentation of singing, instruments, and movement! These classes will perform on November 14th at 6:30pm: Mr. Alberts, Mr. Shain, and  Mrs. Desmond. These classes will perform on November 19th at 6:30pm: Mrs. Zelms, Mrs. Davies, Mrs. Hoyler, and Mrs. Hayden.  We are excited to be starting this music with your students and can’t wait for you to join us!   • Mill Run Friday Message

    Hello Mill Run families,

     

    We are one week away from our 11th annual Softball Game on Friday, September 13th at Mill Run’s Campus (softball field in the back of our school).  Doors open at 4:30 PM, with the game beginning at 5:00 PM. C’mon out, grab dinner and snacks, and lay a blanket down, enjoy great conversation with friends, and see our staff compete.  Thank you so much to everyone who has signed-up to volunteer! Limited sizes available. Cash & Check only. Have your kids grown out of last year's Spirit Wear?  Please consider donating it to our nurse, Mrs Ziegler, to have on hand for other students.

    • Patriot Day is on Wednesday, September 11th.  We are inviting all students and staff to wear Red, White, and Blue!

     

    • After-School Activities: Online Registration will open on Friday, September 13th at 12:00 p.m. through Sunday, September 15th!  Classes will be filled on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis! Look for the registration link soon via Thursday folders, the PTO webpage and Facebook.  Courses begin on Monday, September 30th, and run for 6 weeks. If there is a school holiday or closure on one of your scheduled dates, the course will run until all 6 classes have been held. Monday classes are currently scheduled to end 11/25, Tuesday classes 11/12, Wednesday classes 11/6, Thursday classes 11/7, and Friday classes 11/8. Courses start at 2:45pm and will dismiss at 3:45pm. Students who are picked up late, (after 3:45pm), may be asked to withdraw from the class upon the instructor’s discretion. The Chorus offering will meet for additional sessions and run until January 21st. Please note this when choosing classes for your children. Be sure to have the following when registering your child: 
      • 1.   Child’s grade, Child’s teacher,
      • 2.   Parent contact information (phone and email),
      • 3.   Emergency contact information (phone and email),
      • 4.   Names of individuals authorized to pick up child from class, and
      • 5.  Allergy and/or medical concerns.

    Hello Mill Run families,

     

    It’s been a wonderful first two weeks to start the school year!  Did you know that Mill Run won the Brambleton Summer Reading Challenge?!?!  This is fantastic news!!! In addition to this celebration, our instruction looks great, classroom communities are growing, and your children are building friendships.  Please be sure to follow us @MillRunLCPS (on Twitter) and Mill Run’s PTO @ Mill Run PTO (on Twitter) and our PTO’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/MillRunPTO).  Here, you’ll find pictures and updates with great things happening in our school.  It’s going to be a special year!

    Odyssey of the Mind:  Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem solving competition. It is open to all Mill Run students (K - 5th grade). There will be a Parents Information Meeting in the Mill Run library on Wednesday, September 18 at 7pm. Teams are coached by parents so the number of teams will be determined by the number of volunteers to coach.   • Math & Science Olympiad - Grades 3 - 5

    Hello Families of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students,

     

    Please see the message below from Meghna and Mansi, two Mill Run parents, who will be leading Math & Science Olympiad this school year should your child/family be interested in participating.

     

    Hope you all had a great summer and are now getting back into the school routine. As you may already know, we are kicking off Math and Science Olympiad this year and have decided to form 1 team each for both. Mill Run has been very supportive and has offered to sponsor a team each. 

     

    We are grateful for all the interest and queries at this time by all the wonderful families here at Mill Run and have exceeded the maximum number of registrations for Science Olympiad.  However we still have a few spots available for Math Olympiad.  Below are some additional details for your reference. 

     

    Out of pocket cost

    There is a cost of $20 associated with logistics e.g. printing papers for conducting Olympiad contests, getting medals and/or trophies for kids, team t-shirts for the tournament/Olympiads etc. Please contact us directly on how to make the payment.

    Details on the expenses will be shared at the end of the year and the left over money will be returned back to the parents or additional money will be collected.

    How to register

  • Mill Run Friday Message 8-23-19

    Hello Mill Run families,

     

    Each Friday throughout this school year, I’ll continue to send out a Friday Message with important updates.

     

    What an incredible start to the 2019 - 2020 school year!  It was an exceptional Kindergarten Orientation, Open House, and Back-to-School Night and the first two days of school!  Your children are so ready to have a successful school year. Thank you for serving as wonderful leaders to your children and preparing them to return to Mill Run, ready and excited to learn from our amazing team of educators!  Our staff is beyond excited to lead your children in further strengthening and excelling their academic, social, and emotional skills throughout this school year.

     

    I would also like to give a big shout-out to our amazing PTO and the many parent volunteers that are able to graciously donate their time to support Mill Run in multiple facets!  We are truly so grateful and appreciative!

     

    Next Friday, August 30th will serve as a holiday and a part of the four-day weekend.

     

    • New FUTURA students and parents / guardians are invited to attend one information session (out of two options) being held at Sycolin Creek Elementary School.  The sessions being held are at 5:00 - 5:45 p.m. or 6:00 - 6:45 p.m.

  • Mill Run's BIG Week

    Hello Mill Run families,

     

    We hope that you had a beautiful summer with your family and friends, and that you were able to carve out some time within your schedules to enjoy each other’s company!  We are finally here and ready for the 2019 – 2020 school year to begin!  Our staff has been working incredibly hard, especially over these past couple of weeks, to be fully prepared to welcome your children back, and we know that you will be impressed with their classroom set-up, warm climate, and impressive instruction that they have planned for your children.  It’s going to be an awesome school year, and to begin, we have our BIG week this week.  Please see below for a few reminders as your family prepares for this week… 

     

    Monday, August 19th:  Please log-in to ParentVUE beginning at 10:00 AM to see your child’s classroom teacher.  If you have any questions or concerns with logging in, please contact Mill Run or email Tri Bostelman at Tri.Bostelman@lcps.org or Susan Panetti at Susan.Panetti@lcps.org .

     

    Tuesday, August 20th (please see below):

     

    Kindergarten Orientation, 9:00-10:30 a.m.:  Kindergarten Parents (only) attend this session to meet their children's teachers and to learn about the year that lies ahead.  Parents will meet in the gym prior to heading to the classrooms.  This event is designed for PARENTS-ONLY.  Kindergarten parents will not need to attend Back-to-School Night later that evening (as Kindergarten Orientation this morning will fulfill this), but they will most certainly wish to bring their children to our Open House beginning at 1:00 so they can see their rooms and meet their teachers.

     

    Open House, 1:00-2:30 p.m.:  This event is for ALL Mill Run children and their families.  Please visit our classrooms, meet our specialists, and be sure to grab a Kona Ice courtesy of our PTO in partnership with Top Kick Martial Arts Broadlands, Creative Dance Center, Northern Virginia Orthodontics, and Rubinos beginning at 12:45 - 2:45.  Speaking of our PTO, please consider joining this amazing organization!

     

    You will also want to inform your child's teacher how s/he will get home from school each dayIf you are unable to join us during this time, please email your child(ren)’s teacher letting them know how s/he will be getting home from school.  All of the transportation information is accessible within ParentVue.  This is of utmost importance! 

     

    Please consider carpooling or walking, as parking spots will be limited.

     

    Back-to-School Night, 6:00-8:00 p.m.:  Parents (only) of children in grades 1-5 arrive @ 5:40 p.m., and report to their child(ren)'s classrooms. We will have three, 25-minute sessions that parents can attend, so if you have more than one child at Mill Run this year, you will be able to visit with each teacher. 

     

    Please come to our events ready to...

    1. Purchase great new Spirit Wear.  (During all events)
    2. Join our PTO (During all events)
    3. Visit the cafeteria to place money on your child(ren)'s lunch account (During Open House Only)
    4. Grab a Kona Ice courtesy of our PTO in partnership with Top Kick Martial Arts Broadlands, Creative Dance Center, Northern Virginia Orthodontics, and Rubinos beginning at 12:45 - 2:45.  The PTO is a great way to get involved with our school.  There are many events throughout the year that will need volunteers.  Please be sure to look for upcoming communication from our PTO, either through email or on their Facebook Page.   • Mill Run Back to School Information

    Hello Mill Run families:

     

    I am so excited to be writing you today!  It is hard to believe that August is already here, and that your children will be returning to us in two short weeks.  For many of you, I imagine that you are experiencing feelings of both excitement and sadness, and in either instance, I assure you that your children are in spectacular hands and that our staff can’t wait to welcome them to their awesome classrooms.  The energy, excitement, and creativity that your children share makes our job truly the most rewarding! As we prepare for the upcoming school year, please mark your calendars with the information below so that you can join us for the fun festivities ahead.

     

    Monday, August 12th:  Bus Route Information for the 2019-2020 school year will be posted in ParentVUE.

     

    Also, Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) is working to reduce the amount of paper forms sent home for parent signature at the start of the school year.  At 8:00 AM on Monday, August 12th, an email with a link to the LCPS Virtual First-Day Folder will be sent to all parents and guardians through Blackboard Connect.  Virtual First Day provides parents/guardians with access to review and acknowledge forms and to make student information updates in ParentVUE, as needed.  If you have misplaced your user name, please contact the school of your youngest student to retrieve it. If you need to reset your password, please use the “forgot password” link at www.portal.lcps.org.  There are required and optional forms in Virtual First Day. Electronic acknowledgement of the 2019-2020 Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook is required for every student. (To electronically acknowledge the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook, a pdf must be downloaded in ParentVUE).  These forms include the Students Rights & Responsibilities, the Acceptable Use Agreement, Photo Opt-Out Release Form, and many  more. If a parent or guardian doesn’t have a ParentVUE account, he or she should receive an invitation to create one via email from the LCPS Department of Digital Innovation by Friday, August 9th. 

     

    Wednesday, August 14th:  Welcome back to the World’s Greatest Educators!

     

    Monday, August 19th:  You may log-in to ParentVue to see your child’s classroom teacher.  Kindergarten parents will also receive their welcome letter in the US mail.

    Tuesday, August 20th

     

    • Kindergarten Orientation for parents only of kindergarten children which will take place in Mill Run’s gym from 9:00 – 10:30 AM.  Please know that this will also serve as Kindergarten’s Back-to-School Night informational sessions. Because this session will only include Kindergarten families and will be a little less busy at this time, you may wish to visit the PTO table to purchase Spirit Wear, sign-up for membership, etc..

     

    • Open House from 1:00 – 2:30 for parents/guardians and students.  Kona Ice is provided by our PTO in partnership with Top Kick Martial Arts Broadlands, Creative Dance Center, Northern Virginia Orthodontics, and Rubinos beginning at 12:45 - 2:45.  Speaking of our PTO, please consider joining this amazing organization!

     

    • Back-to-School Night at 6:00 – 8:00 PM for parents only of children in grades 1 – 5:  Here, you will learn about this upcoming school year’s expectations.
      • Please be sure to let your child’s teacher know how your student will be getting home from school (car/bus/day care/walker, etc..) at Open House/Back-to-School Night.  This information is critical!
      • If you are unable to attend either Open House or Back-to-School Night, please email your child’s teacher letting them know how your child will be getting home from school.  It is imperative that we know this information before the first day of school.

     

    Thursday, August 22nd:  First day of School!!! 

     

    Mill Run’s School Hours are 7:50 AM – 2:35 PM.  Students may begin arriving to Mill Run at 7:30 AM, and our dismissal will begin at 2:35 PM.  If your child is a morning bus rider, please have him or her arrive to the bus stop approximately 10 minutes early over the first two weeks.

  • Mill Run Friday Message

    Hello Mill Run Families,

     

    It’s hard to believe that we are down to the last three weeks of school!  With all of that said, we still have a solid three weeks of learning and fun, also with the final week of SOL’s and Field Day on the horizon!  I wanted to share a quick reminder and request, asking for all who drop-off in the morning and pick-up in the afternoon to please continue to show caution while on Ridgeway and within our campus.  Please also be mindful of the 20 mph flashing lights, especially during the morning arrival.  This consistency will ensure the safety of our students, staff, and families.

     

    If you haven’t already done so, please be sure to send in your Parent Input Forms, which are due on Friday, May 24th.  If you need another copy, we have some in the front office.

     

    SCA Teacher Luncheon:  Eddie Merlot’s has generously offered to sponsor a luncheon for our Mill Run staff on behalf of our Student Council Association (SCA), which will take place on May 29th.  They are providing food; however, please check out the Sign-Up Genius below if you are able to help with any paper products or beverages, on behalf of our SCA.

    School Supplies for 2019-2020 for rising Kindergarten through 5th grade students are currently available for order.  If you would like to purchase supplies, which will be delivered directly to Mill Run, please visit: go to www.1stdayschoolsupplies.com and enter in your zip code.  Select 'Mill Run' from the list of available schools, and click the 'Supply Kit' button to display the available list of school supply kits by grade.  Once you've made your selection, proceed to the checkout -- it's that easy!  All orders are due by June 30th.

     

    For rising 6th grade Eagle Ridge students, the school supply kits  (1st Day School supplies) can be ordered online.  Parents need to go to the ERMS website and click on the PTA.  The website link is on the PTA page.  Deadline for ordering is June 30th, 2019.

    Hello Mill Run Families,

     

    Thank you so much for making Staff Appreciation Week such a special week for our staff!  We are so blessed to have the greatest staff and the greatest students and community, and we truly have felt and appreciated all of the love that you shared.  And, thank you to our PTO Care and Share and many parent volunteers who provided lunch on Wednesday – it was delicious and greatly appreciated!

     

    We hope that all of our mom’s, grandmother’s, auntie’s, and special loved ones have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend!  The guidance, love, and tireless work that you share with your children, among many others, is so incredible!
