    Hello Mill Run Families,

Though we have had two two-hour delays this week, it’s certainly been an intense and busy week, with great instruction, CogAT testing, classroom parties, and 4th grade performances, to name a few of the many great things happening at Mill Run.  They’ve been busy, but they’ve also certainly been fun, successful and rewarding!  This week, you should have received flyers for both our Yearbook Order forms and for our summer STEAM Camp.  Yearbooks ($20) can be purchased by check made to Mill Run Elementary or can be ordered online by going to ybpay.lifetouch.com and entering the School Code: 3794619, with paper orders due by Friday, March 15th and online orders due by Sunday, March 24th.

Next week, After-School Activities registration begins on Tuesday (please see below), Dr. Williams will speak at the upcoming MSAAC Meeting on February 20th at 7:00 – 9:00 PM at the LCPS Administration Building, and the Moveable Monday and pre-registrations for new students to Mill Run begins on Thursday, February 21st (please see ConnectEd message from yesterday).

Please mark your calendars:  We are hosting our annual Tales by Twilight event on Thursday, February 28th at 6:30 – 8:00 PM, as we celebrate Read Across America this week.  Your children are invited to wear their comfortable pajamas and to bring a favorite stuffed animal to hear nearly 15 of our staff reading their favorite stories during all three sessions.  You’ll notice that Mrs. Blair and Mrs. Hatton are only leading one reading session each.  That is because they will be hosting a parent-only workshop during the third session, where they will share tips and strategies to help your growing reader at home.  In lieu of students walking away with a book this year, we will be sharing Dr. Seuss pencils and bookmarks to all Mill Run students on Thursday, leading up to the event.  Additionally, the 5th grade class will be holding a Bake Sale at our event, located in the front lobby – please feel free to stop by!  This is a Mill Run favorite tradition that you won’t want to miss!

After-School Activities:  Our Spring After-School Activities registration is upon us!  Beginning on Tuesday February 19th at noon through Friday, February 22nd at noon.  Our Spring ASA classes will run for 6 weeks.  Each class will start at 2:45 p.m. and will end at 3:45 p.m.  To view classes offered and to register, please use this link:  https://www.lcps.org/Page/197806

Have a wonderful and safe three-day weekend!

    Dear Mill Run Families,

Online Pre-Registration opens on February 21st for the 2019-2020 school year for rising Kindergarten students and any new students to Mill Run.  If you are currently attending Mill Run, you do not need to pre-register your students. They will automatically roll over to Mill Run or their home school based on your home address.  Pre-registration is only for new students.

After pre-registering your child through ParentVUE, Mill Run will email you to schedule your face-to-face appointment.  Registrations are not considered complete until your documents have been reviewed and finalized by our registrar on Registration Opening Days.  This does not include the health forms as those can be turned in when they are ready or by August 16, 2019.

Registration Opening Days are Wednesday, March 20, and Thursday, March 21.  There will be a sign indicating which doors to enter.  If you have neighbors that may have children enrolling for the first time at Mill Run, please share the registration information with them.

Children must be 5 years old on or before September 30, 2019 to be eligible to attend kindergarten. There are no exceptions to this state requirement.

Visit the registration website to review the documents you will need to bring on March 20 or 21.  If have any questions, please contact Susan Panetti at Susan.Panetti@lcps.org or 571-252-2160.

  • Mill Run's Weekly Message

Posted by JOHN CORNELY on 2/9/2019

    Hello Mill Run Families,

We hope that your weekend is off to a great start!  Please see the message below, that includes much information about our Spirit Week, PTO newsletter, upcoming second grade CogAT testing and annual LCPS Parent Survey, Valentine’s Day parties, the fourth grade musical, and STEAM Camp fliers.

We had a great full week of school, and it was capped-off with three days of spirit wear (pajamas, MRES Spirit Wear, and Jersey / sports attire Day)!  And most importantly, our students display such incredible kindness and citizenship ongoing every day, regardless if a Spirit Week is present.  Thank you for the work that you do to support, prepare, and lead your children to be thoughtful, caring, and loving citizens!

Please click on this link to view our monthly PTO Newsletter.

Beginning on Monday, February 11th – February 28th, LCPS will be emailing a link to the annual Parent Survey.  LCPS will send you one email message for each school in which you have a child enrolled. Please respond to all of the links sent to you because your opinion is important to each of the schools that your children attend. Positive comments as well as suggestions are important to us.  You should be able to answer the questions in approximately 10 minutes. All responses are anonymous. Results of previous surveys can be viewed on the LCPS website, https://www.lcps.org/Page/189350  If you do not receive a survey link to complete by February 19, please contact the LCPS Research Office via email- research@lcps.org. Your participation is greatly appreciated.

Our Second Grade CogAT testing will take place on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week.  Your children will best be ready to participate in this assessment with a solid night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast.  Thank you so much for all of your support!

Next Thursday, all Mill Run classes will host Valentine’s Day parties beginning at 1:00 PM.  In keeping with current practices designed to protect the health and safety of all children, elementary students in Loudoun County Public Schools are not permitted to distribute candy or other food items to classmates. As Valentine’s Day approaches, it is important for parents to understand that candy brought to school by students, including candy attached to Valentine’s Day cards, will be returned to the parent. Children are permitted to share Valentine's Day cards with each other, but they cannot give out candy.

4th Grade Musical:  Our Fourth Grade Musicals will take place next week.  On Tuesday, February 12th, Mrs. Davies, Mr. Alberts, and Mr. Shain’s classes will have their musical at Mill Run beginning at 6:30 PM.  On Wednesday, February 13th, Mrs. Desmond, Mrs. Hayden, and Mrs. Zelms’ classes will have their musical at Mill Run beginning at 6:30 PM.

STEAM Camp:  Our STEAM Camp fliers will be coming home next week.  Please be on the lookout to register your children this summer!

    Have a wonderful weekend!
