"Broad Run HIgh School is a diverse community of lifelong learners where students, parents and faculty work together to promote each individual's achievement and character through empowering relationships."

Hello!  I'm thrilled to be joining the Spartan family this school year after serving as an assistant principal for 9 years at Potomac Falls.  My passion for education and serving others drives my work and value system every day.  I hope to contribute positively to the Broad Run community of amazing staff, students, and families.  I've been an educator for 20 years, earned a master's degree from Texas State University in Secondary Education and a second master's degree from Texas State University in Education Administration. Prior to serving as an AP, I taught Spanish classes at the high school level and also adults in ESL classes at night.  My love of learning and growing has presented many opportunities, such as conducting and publishing action research. I was able to present findings at national conferences in Boston, Denver and Philadelphia centered on language learning and the importance of culture in our lives.  I was a teacher leader in an exchange program with South Korea where I took 13 American high school students to Korea for a cultural exchange for 3 weeks and then we hosted the Korean students a couple months later.  I also hosted a German exchange student for a semester in my home, which was amazing!  Some of my favorite memories include backpacking through the Yucatan, studying in Spain during college, swimming with sharks in Belize, and seeing a giant turtle migration under the stars and on the beach in Costa Rica.  I also took my mom on a 30 day road trip across the country where we camped on beaches, explored museums, went white water rafting on the Colorado, and rode horses through Moab.

I have three children, a junior in high school and two second graders.  My kids all love sports (cheerleading, soccer, swim, basketball, etc) and keep my husband and me busy year round!  We enjoy going to the beach every summer and glamping several times throughout the year.

I am most myself when I am serving others.  I was a volunteer EMT many years ago, served as a team leader in AmeriCorps NCCC, and have spent many years coaching sports.  My husband and I continue to coach our boy's soccer teams together, and I serve as an age group coordinator in SYA Soccer.  In the future, a personal goal of mine is to help the non-profit Sleep In Heavenly Peace to build beds for children in need.  My professional goal is to continue my studies and to earn a doctorate from East Carolina University - School Leadership. This most interests me because this particular program honors language and culture as foundations to learning and leading.

Let's have an awesome year, Spartans!
