Dr. Wendy Young

Hi! My name is Dr. Wendy Young and I am delighted to be the SEARCH teacher for Lowes Island and Potowmack Elementary Schools. I was a former gifted resource teacher for Coventry Public Schools in Coventry, Rhode Island before my move to Virginia in 2001. This is my fifth year as a SEARCH teacher. I was previously a Head Start teacher in LCPS.  I am also an adjunct professor at George Mason University teaching graduate classes in early childhood.

I have a PhD in Education (Early Childhood/Literacy) from George Mason University, a Master of Science in Education (Reading Specialist) Degree from Shenandoah University, a Certificate of Gifted Education from Rhode Island College, and a Bachelor of Science in Education (Early Childhood/Elementary Education) Degree from Millersville University.

I live in Leesburg with my meteorologist husband, Doug.  I have 2 grown daughters, Rachel and Skye. I spend any extra time (when I am not in a classroom) running long distances, hiking, traveling with my husband, and reading.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at Wendy.L.Young@lcps.org or by calling the school’s main office. I am at Potowmack Elementary School on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and at Lowes Island Elementary School on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. I look forward to working with all of the students in grades K-4 during our SEARCH lessons!
