  • Long term care insurance provides a variety of services and support to meet health or personal care needs over an extended period of time due to physical or cognitive disability. These services can be offered in your home or a facility such as assisted living or nursing home. Most long-term care is non-skilled personal care assistance, such as help performing everyday Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), which are: bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring (to or from bed or chair), caring for incontinence, and eating.  

    At least 70% of people over age 65 will require some long-term care services at some point in their lives. And, contrary to what many people believe, Medicare and private health insurance programs do not pay for the majority of long-term care services that most people need. Planning is essential. 

    Employees may enroll at anytime! The Genworth program has reduced medical underwriting for the employee in the first 60 days of full-time employment. 

    LCPS employees have access to two choices for optional Long Term Care policies.  VRS Hybrid members are automatically enrolled in a Long Term Care Program. 

    Commonwealth of Virginia (COV) Voluntary Group Long Term Care Program- Genworth: This plan is offered through Genworth in coordination with VRS.  Find basic information about the program on the VRS website's Commonwealth of Virginia (COV) Long Term Care page.     VLDP for VRS Hybrid Members: VRS Hybrid members who participate in the Virginia Local Disability Program (VLDP) are covered automatically under the VLDP Long-Term Care Program. For more information on this plan log in to your account on www.varetire.org or call 1-800-761-4057.
