Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Amanda Smith

Hello!  My name is Amanda Smith and I am excited to be back at Dominion Trail for a ninth year, and my 15th year of teaching.  Previously, I taught band at various middle schools and at Stone Bridge HS.  I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from George Mason University in 2008 and I earned my Master's Degree in Music Education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2015.

In the music classroom, it is my goal to use many different methods including Orff, Kodaly, Dalchroze, and World Music to give students the opportunity to make music together.  I believe that all students have it within them to become musicians and I strive to make the music classroom a safe and inviting environment for all students to help facilitate learning.  Music is an important part of created a well-rounded student.

Although I had to learn to play many instruments to earn my degree, my primary instrument is flute, which I have been playing for 25 years (since 5th grade!).  Through my involvement in music, I have been able to perform in various venues including the Virginia Music Educators Association Conference and the White House.

When not at school, I love spending time with my husband, who is the band director at Riverside High School, and our nine-year old daughter, Caroline.
