What can I do to support my child at home with reading?
READ WITH YOUR CHILD!One of the most important things you can do is to make sure your child always has a book of interest to read. The book needs to be interesting and motivating for him/her to read and it must also be at the correct reading level – not too hard and not too easy. The more your child reads, the better reader he/she will become. Read aloud to your child. You may want to alternate pages with him/her or even read aloud a whole chapter or even an entire book. Listening to someone else read aloud promotes fluency, comprehension, and interest. Be a reading role model for your child. Children learn by example. The following website may help if you are trying to figure out reading levels: http://www.scholastic.com/bookwizard/.Please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
