Elementary school counselors in Loudoun County teach objectives from the three major domains:  academic development, career development and social/emotional development from the “Standards for School Counseling Programs in Virginia Public Schools" and the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success.

Mrs. Shanholtzer visits each classroom for 45 minutes (30 minutes in kindergarten) every other week throughout the school year.  Classroom guidance lessons are developed to be developmentally age appropriate and include but are not limited to topics in the areas of academic, career development, and social/emotional development.

Utilizing the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success, elementary school counselors encourage the following mindsets and behaviors for all students.

Belief in development of whole self, including a healthy balance of mental, social/emotional and physical well-being

Understanding that postsecondary education and life-long learning are necessary for long-term career success
