• I am originally from West Virginia, GO MOUNTAINEERS!  I attended Shepherd College where I obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in Home Economics with a minor in Business.  Upon graduation, I moved to Virginia with my husband and landed a job as an Assistant Branch Manager for a major bank.  After years of banking, I decided that I needed a career change.  In 1992, Loudoun County hired me as the high school Family Life Specialist.  I taught freshmen and sophomores in all 4 (at that time) high schools and had the privilege in opening the fifth high school, Potomac Falls.  In 1998, I decided to devote more of my time to my two daughters, so I left Loudoun County and helped at a local preschool for several years.  I returned to Loudoun County in 2002 and accepted various assistant positions in the elementary schools.  In 2007, I had the wonderful opportunity to go back to teaching what I love, so I joined the staff of Eagle Ridge MS teaching Family and Consumer Science.  I completed my Masters of Education: Curriculum and Instruction in 2013.  As of this current school year, I get to delve into using my Business minor and teach keyboarding!  This will be my 12th year at Eagle Ridge and starting my 22nd year in the county.

I currently live in Ashburn with my husband. We have been here since 1988.  I have two daughters, one a graduate of WVU and the other a current graduate from Shepherd University.  We travel quite a bit to visit family in West Virginia, Michigan and Boston.  I am an avid race walker.  I love to ski, rollerblade, hike, kayak, paddleboard, read and just hang out with my family.

I am excited to start a new school year and I look forward to working with the students at Eagle Ridge. I can be reached by email beth.newport@lcps.org or by phone during my office hours.
