The objective of the reading program at Rosa Lee Carter is to help students become competent, lifelong readers. Students are taught to develop skills and strategies necessary to make sense of what they read. Students are also learning to think critically in order to acquire knowledge in the content areas.
The primary roles of the reading specialist are to provide training in the Pathways framework to teachers new to Loudoun County, coordinate the school’s reading program and assist in implementing effective methods that will help struggling readers. As reading specialists, we meet with small groups, team teach with classroom teachers, coordinate assessment programs and serve as a resource for both teachers and parents.
