The Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening (PALS) is a state wide assessment given to grades K-3. For most students it is administered in the fall and spring. It is used to identify students who are performing below grade level expectations and may need additional support.
The Developmental Reading Assessment, 2 (DRA2) is given to students in grades K-5 at designated times during the year. The purpose of the DRA2 is to assess a reader’s development over time and determine a specific focus for instruction in the classroom. The DRA2 assesses oral reading and comprehension, including higher level thinking skills. There are benchmark levels that have been established for fall, mid-year and spring.
