Calculators: Helping you add things up.
A graphing calculator is a learning tool designed to help students visualize and better understand concepts in mathematics and science. It allows students to make real-world connections in a variety of subjects. As they gain a deeper understanding of the material, students acquire the critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to attain greater academic success. (education.TI.com) The graphing calculator has become an integral tool of any math class. Over the course of their education, your child may have seen several different flavors of calculator. At John Champe, we currently have three different calculators that we use: TI-Nspire CX, TI-84 CE, and Desoms (an on-line calculator). If your student is taking Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II, he/she will be using the Desmos calculator that can be accessed from any compcuter or smart phone. Although in other math courses, your student will have access to a graphing calculatorin class, it is highly recommended for them to have access to one outside of school.
