Mrs. Riedel

I have been a school counselor for LCPS for 21 years and am a charter member of the staff at Moorefield Station.  I received my undergraduate degree and my M.A.Ed. in counselor education from the University of North Carolina.  (Go Tarheels!)  I love being a school counselor and am excited to work with the students this year.

As a school counselor, I am here each day to support the children at Moorefield Station.  I will be the school counselor with kindergarten and third grade.  I will work with Michelle Fernandez in second grade and Kim Kenny in fifth grade.  We teach lessons every other week in the classroom on academic, career and social/emotional topics.  In addition to teaching classes, I can provide small group counseling and short-term individual counseling.  Moorefield Station's school counselors collaborate with our school worker and school psychologist on the Unified Mental Health Team to offer resources and interventions to promote student success.

In my personal life, I am the proud mother of two sons, both married, and two daughters, one married and the other engaged.  I also have four precious grandchildren and a very nice dog and cat.  Mr. Riedel and I are very busy with our family.  I also love reading, yoga, singing and long walks.

Mrs. Kenny

This is my 8th year as a school counselor for LCPS and my 4th year at Moorefield Station Elementary School. I earned my B.S. in psychology from George Mason University and my M.A.Ed., in counselor education from Virginia Tech. I absolutely love working with your child(ren) here at MSES. In my free time, I enjoy quality time with my husband, our three children and our family dog, Chance.

This school year, I am the primary counselor for 1st grade, 4th grade, and some of 5th grade (Mr. Kelley & Ms. Constantine's class). Every two weeks, I teach classrooms lessons focusing on one of the three school counseling domains: social/emotional, academic, or college/career. In my 5th grade, Mrs. Riedel and I will co-teach many lessons. In addition to teaching lessons, I provide individual counseling, small group counseling, and consultation services when students need more support. If you would like support for your child's social-emotional needs or have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me any time -- I'm here to help!

Mrs. Fernandez

Welcome, Sharks!  My name is Michelle Fernandez, and I will be working with the counseling team at Moorefield Station Elementary School on Mondays this year.  Previously, I had worked as a full-time counselor at MSE, and I'm excited to be returning to this wonderful community.  This will be my eighth year as a school counselor.

I have been involved in education for many years.  Prior to becoming a counselor, I worked as a school psychologist for several years, as a preschool assistant teacher, and as a substitute teacher.  I also spent time at home raising a family and volunteering at my daughters’ schools.  I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from James Madison University (Go Dukes!) and then completed my Master of Science in Education degree from Bucknell University.

When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two teenage daughters, kayaking, hiking, and being outside as much as I can.  I look forward to helping our Sharks achieve academically and socially.
