Ms. Jennifer Syron

Ms. Syron is an EL Co-teacher in Geometry and Biology.  She has worked with LCPS since 2019 and at Park View High School since the fall of 2021.  Ms. Syron brings to Park View HS experience teaching reading intervention, social sciences, and interdisciplinary gifted and talented courses in both Northern Virginia and West Virginia. She has also taught ESL in Poland and courses in Cultural Anthropology in New York.  In addition to teaching, Ms. Syron also worked on long-term educational research projects for the Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning at the University of Virginia.  

Prior to becoming a teacher, Ms. Syron spent several years pursuing a doctorate in Socio-Cultural Anthropology.  She conducted a short-term field work project in Ufa, Russia working with a Russian orphanage and another with indigneous groups in Kamchatka.  She also conducted long term field work recording the life histories of Soviet political prisoners on Kolyma, a region in far eastern Siberia.

Ms. Syron earned her bachelor's degree from Rutgers College with a double major in Russian Language/Literature and Political Science.  She has her A.M. in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and an M.Phil in Socio-Cultural Anthropology from Columbia University.   Ms. Syron has been the recipient of several grants, including ones from the Fulbright-Hays-Doctoral Dissertation program, the National Science Foundation, and the American Council of Teachers of Russian.

In her free time, Ms. Syron enjoys playing board games and the crossword puzzle, baking bread, and taking photographs of wildlife. She is also a member of the Loudoun County Medical Reserve Corps.
