Degrees and Certifications:
Profesora/Mrs. Sorto's Back to School Night Video
I am very excited and looking forward to an amazing year at Smart’s Mill Middle School, and most of all, I can’t wait to meet all of my new students! I have a Bachelor of Arts in World Languages and Cultures with a concentration in Spanish from Old Dominion University. Associates of Arts degree in General Education from The University of Alaska Anchorage. Also, I am licensed to teach Spanish and ELL(English for Language Learners) levels Pre K-12th grade.
Spanish is my first language. I am from El Salvador and lived there for 14 years and visit every year. When I left El Salvador I moved to Kodiak, Alaska and later to Chesapeake, Virginia. I have traveled to Costa Rica, The Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Puerto Rico, and Spain. I had the opportunity to speak with the locals and get an aspect of the particular words used in each country and their particular culture. In my free time I love to spend time with my family and friends, exercise, and hike trails. I also like to travel with my husband, who is a pilot and captain for United Express. We visit our families and friends who are all over the United States and the world.
