Mr. Nicholas Zapadka

Greetings to the students, families, and friends of the Tolbert community! I am ecstatic to be serving as assistant principal for 2017-18 school year, and helping to continue our school's legacy of caring, community, and learning. I am coming to Tolbert after serving as a dean and teacher at Trailside Middle School in Ashburn. I am a huge advocate for engaging learning that puts students at the heart of the classroom experience. Whether driven by collaboration, technology, or projects, it is important that we are providing our students with memorable, personalized, and relevant instruction, and I look forward to working with staff and students to make Tolbert a true "learning community".

I completed my undergraduate degree in history at snowy Allegheny College in Meadville, PA, and then transitioned back into the city to complete a Master’s Degree and teaching certification at the University of Pittsburgh. I have also earned an Education Specialist degree in Educational Administration from the George Washington University, and am currently pursuing a doctorate at the University of Virginia Curry School of Education.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, following politics, and playing tennis and soccer. No weekend is complete without watching Arsenal, my favorite football club. My wife and I are also passionate world travelers and always planning our next adventure. Our favorite city is Cologne, Germany, where we both studied at the local university and were engaged!

Please contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have about your son/daughter’s progress. In most cases I will respond within 24 hours. Looking forward to a great year!
