    January 2019

    Dear Parents and Harmony Community,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Harmony and also a privilege to be its Principal.  We will be working together in a school that has excelled since 2002 when it was originally an 8th and 9th grade Intermediate School (2002 -2010) to a true 6th through 8th grade middle school (2010 – present).

We were named “A School to Watch,” an honor given by The National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform, in 2012 and again in 2015.  The National Forum strives to make every middle school academically excellent, responsive to individual student needs and socially equitable.  Through an extensive assessment process, including written applications and site visits, Harmony Middle School was found to be an exemplary, high performing middle school.  We will reapply in 2019 for another three-year designation.

Our teachers, administrators, parents, and students are very proud of this distinguished recognition.  We will continue to value the importance of relationship building and rigorous academic opportunities.  You (parents) play an integral role in our school community with our volunteers, hone support, and PTA sponsoring many wonderful afterschool club activities as well as assisting in parent communication with “The Hornet’s Nest” newsletter or our Connect Ed communications.  The most valuable gift we receive from parents, outside of their children, is the “gift of time” that our parents put in to volunteer or offer assistance in areas of need to the school and to our families.

We always look forward to working with your children.  Feel free to contact me at any time to ask questions about any aspect of Harmony. Let’s keep working together and always communicate with each other.  We need your help so we can give the kids a balanced and enriching education.  Please think of the school staff as a team member in your child’s future.

If you have any ideas that you think would help make the school a better place, please let me know.  Send them to my email address at eric.stewart@lcps.org, or call the school’s main number (540) 751-2500 to set up a meeting.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Very truly yours,

    Eric Stewart, Principal
