Mrs. Smith is very excited to be part of the Discovery Staff – home of the Discovery Trailblazers. This will be her thirtieth year teaching in Loudoun County and her sixteenth year as the Instructional Facilitator for Technology. She taught ten years in fifth grade and four years in fourth grade. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from St. Bonaventure University in upstate New York and a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University.
She supports teachers to implement and integrate technology tools and applications that transform learning in the classroom in order to personalize learning and meet the needs of 21st century learners. Mrs. Smith is passionate about teaching and learning and embraces innovative practices.
It has always been her passion to work with children, especially with the use of technology. Used to support both teaching and learning, she believes technology infuses classroom engagement and builds 21st century learning skills. She is very excited to be a member of the Personalized Learning leadership team again this year. In a personalized learning environment, all (students/teachers) will have a voice and choice and are intrinsically motivated to innovate and solve problems.
She currently lives in Leesburg, Virginia with her husband and with their family dog, English Springer Spaniel, Bailey. Mrs. Smith's twins will be freshman in college this Fall. Her daughter will be attending NC State and her son will be attending the University of South Carolina.
In her spare time, Mrs. Smith loves cycling, and playing any type of sport.
