Loudoun International Youth Leadership Summit
The 6th Annual Loudoun International Youth Leadership Summit will be held March 26 to April 4, 2017. Six Loudoun County high schools (Dominion, Park View, Potomac Falls, Rock Ridge, Broad Run, and Champe). We anticipate participation from approximately 25 international delegations, which are likely to include student delegates from: Australia, Austria, Chile, China, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Mexico, Norway, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, and Tanzania.
Students in the Global Ambassadors clubs at the various Loudoun County high schools will begin planning the event in September 2016 and look forward to hosting their peers from around the world.
Founded in 2012, the goal of the summit is to bring together young people from around the globe for an opportunity to share perspectives and consider their roles as global citizens. These goals are achieved through a variety of activities which actively engage a wide variety of LCPS students with the international delegates, including structured discussions, classroom activities, field trips, and development of an action plan to implement after the summit.
The LIYLS 2017 theme is "Reconcile the Past, Shape the Future: Building Peace Within and Among Nations." Discussions, activities, and speakers will focus on examining internal conflicts faced by countries, such as the civil rights movement in the United States, as well as international conflicts. Students will examine the steps people and institutions have taken to build peace within their communities and across borders and consider how these practices can best be applied to conflicts facing the world today.
