Lovettsville students use computers and other technologies as integral tools in learning.  At Lovettsville school, we teach students how to use basic computer applications such as word processing and graphics. Microsoft Office 2007 software, Pixie 2, Inspiration 8.0,  and other software programs are used to complete projects. Technology is thoroughly integrated into every area of classroom study. At Lovettsville Elementary, knowledge is a whole fabric, not individual strands!

Computers are the focus of technology training at Lovettsville, but other technologies are also used regularly. Students watch educational DVDs and programs on classroom televisions and interactive Promethean Boards. Interactive web sites, interactive microscopes, laser disk players and a library of video disks show students people, places and things they would not otherwise be able to see -- plant cell division or hibernating animals, for example. Lovettsville teachers also have access at all times to Safari Montage, our in-house educational movie server. 

By the end of kindergarten, Lovettsville students can use a wide range of graphics and text tools including line, pencil and shape tools, fills, gradients and stamps. They use graphing programs to create different types of graphs.  They can use the keyboard to type their names and create simple graphs and charts. And they know the basic parts of a computer and what tasks those parts perform.

By the end of the third grade, Lovettsville students can format reports that would impress most college professors and businessmen. They can determine alignment, justification, margins, fonts, line spacing, etc, add pertinent graphics to the document and wrap the text around the graphics. Microsoft software is used to complete these projects.  They can also create maps, and spreadsheets, and research subjects on the Internet.

By the end of fifth grade, Lovettsville students can create complicated documents such as three-fold brochures and other desktop publications complete with photographs, clipart and original art. They can design, create and edit computer graphics, spreadsheets with imbedded computations, maps and computer art.
